Clyde "Jack" Lord was wounded in action.
Jack was a good friend of my dad, Gordon Stevens and visited him several times after the war was over. During one of their first meetings after the war Jack asked my dad, "Who won?" He had been wounded in either an amtrac or a higgins boat and was evacuated to a ship never reaching Betio. This is the reason he is not pictured in the H&S 2 commnications company photo.
